Full Kitesurfing Beginner Course:
The aim of a beginner's course is to get you hooked on the best wind sport around and to arm you with all the skills you need to kitesurf independently and safely.
There is a lot to learn, so kitesurfing is best taught in stages. Each stage has to be mastered before combining all the skills together to achieve your first attempt at getting up on the board. Kite surfing is 80% kite skills, so it is important that you are comfortable flying the kite first. Any small kite flying experience prior to the course is going to be beneficial, but is definitely not essential!
The stages are:
Wind awareness, tidal awareness, site assessments and safety aspects of kitesurfing
These are the essential basics.
Setting up and flying the kite
We will show you how to set up the gear (foil and inflatable kites). Then we'll teach you how to launch and land the kites safely.
Flying Skills
This is where you take control of the kite and show it who’s boss, learning how to get the kite to take you where you want to go.
Self Rescue Techniques
Essential information on taming a wild kite and recovering yourself in various ways from various situations. Very important!
Body surfing
Progressing on from the flying skills, using a more powerful kite in the water. Hugely exciting and useful as it happens a lot when you fall off whilst kitesurfing.
Harness Technique
A harness takes the strain off your arms and allows you to use more advanced kites. Amongst other things a harness helps you to recover the board and to body surf up wind!
Kite surfing
Here you put all the skills you have learnt together and experience the thrill of planing across water powered by your kite. From here it’s all about practice, practice, practice…
Duration: 10 - 12hours
A standard kitesurf lesson consists of 4 – 5 hours a day. There are two course options available;
1) Course run over 3 days (does not have to be consecutive days).
2) Intensive 2 day course (typically weekend).
Price: 1 day €130, Full package €350
4 persons per session max.
You will also receive an internationally recognised IKO Kiteboarder Card, which is valid in over 90 countries worldwide, and enables the holder to rent kit at a reduced rate from centres worldwide.
